I'm having a very bizarre issue at one of my customers that appears, after some digging, to be related to Office 2013 and 2016 Home and Business 'click 2 run'The customer needs to use a special odbc driver to access another applications data through excel (quickbooks). The third party odbc tool/driver seems to be speaking with the quickbooks database correctly, but when one tries to use Excel to suck in the data the click-2-run versions of office just crash. Now, interestingly, Office 2010, home and business doesn't exhibit this behaviour. Neither do trial versions of Office 2013 proplus (a VL only product). This led me down a few not well travelled paths that are seeming to suggest that the click-2-run products run themselves in some sort of protected machine instance, perhaps even a VM. Not a lot of chatter about this and I only hit a few internet posts about it.Anyway, the issue is repeatable and I would really like to find a way to get hold of an MSI version of Office 2013 H&B and 2016 H&B. Searches have come up empty.

Looks like this could be done for Office 2010, but theres no information at all on 2013/2016 with relation to this.Couple of questions then:1) Does anyone know if MSI versions of FPP Home and Business 2013/2016 even exist?2) Anyone hit any strange odbc related issues similar to the above? How did you get around them?

Entering one of the Home and Business product codes into that website tells me this:The Product Key entered was not recognized as a valid Product Key. Please check the characters entered and try again. You may need to use instead to download your new Office product.Strangely, clicking on that link then sends me back to setup.office.com, but then accepts the product code.Unfortunately, the code then leads me to a familiar MS website where the click-2-run IMG downloads can be obtained, but I cant see any obvious way to obtain the previous 'standard' install - the MSI. No, the Deployment tool works with all versions of Click 2 Run, even Home and Student. It does allow a preset install in a similar way to that previously provided by an Admin setup of the MSI. However this isn't the source of my problem. The Click 2 Run versions appear to run on your PC quite differently to the older packaged versions (the old MSI method). In my example from the OP I've got a testing/development pool of PC's, 1 has Office H&B 2010 installed from DVD (the MSI method), one has Office 2013 ProPlus Evaluation (also MSI) - these two work fine. But I got a tip-off when an FPP version of Office 2013 didn't work, just crashes excel when trying to access ODBC, Office 2016 C2R reacts in the same way.Its very odd.

I dislike the C2R versions immensely anyway, so finding an MSI alternative for the otherwise default C2R install on FPP product would suit me from a number of angles, not only the problem reported here. No luck folks. Ordered physical media is, as one might reasonably expect, simply a physical DVD of the ISO for 2016 C2R which is downloadable on the MS web site - its still C2R, not MSI.Looks like the MSI is only available in the ProPlus version of Office 2016.This will make you laugh. Or cry as the case may be. Time has moved on since my initial post and now Office 2016 is in full retail swing. I've installed countless copies as nothing else is available for SMB in retail packaging. Not a single one has ever activated automatically when the Office Deployment Tool is used to deploy the application. Every-single-copy requires me to ring MS activation.

Without fail, every single CSR I speak with is befuddled that the 'activate by phone' option simply doesn't present and because of this they need to access the system remotely and fiddle about.I can't see how MS is making any money. Certainly they are not from my installs.

2 hours of CSR time, however poorly they might be paid, has got to be eating the lions share of any retail revenue that MS might make on the product. I wonder if these stats ever make it back to the activation decision makers?

I got this to work with our E3 Office 365 subscription.Yes you have to use the ODT to install these together.follow the directions under detail to understand how to edit your config file. This is my config file: -Make note of your Product IDs. Office 365 Business has different IDs than Office 365 Enterprise. This will download 64 bit Office 365 Pro, Visio Pro, and Project Pro using setup.exe /download.Use

Run cscript ospp.vbs /dstatuslook for 'last 5 characters of installed product key: xxxxx' under the listing for Visio or Project.Remove the temporary key with cscript ospp.vbs /unpkey:xxxxx using those 5 characters.install your VLSC MAK key for Visio or Project usingcscript ospp.vbs /inpkey:xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxxThis worked for me. The only way to get non C2R versions (as far as I know, anyway) is to purchase a Volume License for the product in question. Be aware, though, that you can't mix the 2 on the same machine.if this is the case then all home and business users will have to switch over to Pro Plus VL as you can not get home and business in VL, which makes the current home and business licences useless (unless it can be salvaged in some way) that sucks but guess that MS for you. H&B uses C2R. The only reason you need to mix and match is if you are trying to install another Office product that is not C2R.If you are just installing H&B you are fine. Where are you seeing a problem? If you look at the original post the user has home and business (C2R) installed on his clients computer which quickbooks dose not like.so for him to make it work with quickbooks he will have to REMOVE home and business and then install PRO PLUS or what ever the equivalent is through volume licencing. Or am i still not getting something?just as i am typing this just had a thought (again could be wrong) install home and business with ODT and exclude Excel. Then go buy Excel ONLY as VL and install it that way (I GUESS) you have excell as the non C2R.

Paresh90 wrote:if you look at the original post the user has home and business (C2R) installed on his clients computer which quickbooks dose not like.Ah, sorry, I thought we were just talking about H&B on new machines. For OP's case it was not QuickBooks, though, it was a third party ODBC tool.

QuickBooks works just fine with C2R installs of Office - I've got it running here without issue.Paresh90 wrote:just as i am typing this just had a thought (again could be wrong) install home and business with ODT and exclude Excel. Excel MSI will not install because you have Office C2R on the machine.

Honestly this is just BS, installing software should be easy AND flexible. This sort of rigidity led me to look at alternatives and I've been using LibreOffice lately and find that it does everything I need which is mainly documentation, reports and spread sheets.

I don't use the presentation or database one. The Draw package is pretty good too. The bonus is that it can save as docx and xlsx, and pdf. One of my customers has cut over to it completely, a biotechnology firm of about 30 seats. Give it a go.

Hi Guys sorry for the super late response.so i was able to install Office H&B 2016 as a NON C2R thanks to the help with MS. I logged a call with them and they helped me out with a link they claim is the non C2Rafter a few restarts and uninstall and scripts we were able to remove the office completely on the machine. We then used there link and supposedly because in the about page/Account page it did not say C2R which was there previously. After which my clients issue was gone.so i kept the link for H&B 2016 and did some reverse googleing to find the links for the other products.- this is for 2016 NON C2R- this is 2013 NON C2R (the download links on this is slow.i now install office using theses images instead.
